# OUR SEAS ARE IN DANGER
A marine area of almost 60.000 sq.km. that covers almost the total surface of the Ionian Sea and extends to the west and the southwest parts of Crete, as well as 17.000 sq.km. of land in Epirus and northwest Peloponnese, have been granted to oil companies for oil and gas exploration and exploitation. Moreover a tendering process is in progress for more marine areas with total expansion of 32.000 sq.km.
The entire Ionian sea and the Libyan sea are in danger to be converted in a huge offshore oil platform.
The dangers that underlie the oil and gas drilling are huge. We are facing epic damage in tourism and other areas of the economy (fishing, stockbreeding, agriculture), damage to many rich ecosystems, pollution of the groundwater, and of course all the impacts that hydrocarbons exploitation have on public health.
Whatever the benefit they promise to us, it will be never enough to put it before the Ionian and Libyan sea neither the magical mountains of Pindos, before water and land, before life itself!
